Marinas

As a town bathed both by river and sea, Ayamonte has always enjoyed a great maritime tradition, and this is reflected not only in the town´s important fishing harbour but in a number of Marinas nearby. Thus, in the city centre we find the Puerto Deportivo de Ayamonte, an obligatory visit before setting off on a romantic cruise along the river Guadiana . On the coast, the Marina de Isla Canela, combines the attractions of fishing and sailing. Also, in the surroundings, we musn´t forget the harbours of Vila Real de Santo Antonio, Isla Cristina, Faro or the glamorous harbour of Vilamoura .

Golf

The tourist development of Ayamonte and its surroundings has given rise to a number of golf courses over the last decade. Thus, within Ayamonte we find the golf course of Isla Canela and two more courses will be opened soon as part of the Puente Esury project. Very near Ayamonte, on Spanish ground, we find the golf courses of Isla Antilla, Castillo San Miguel, El Rompido and Aljaraque, all within 30 minutes driving distance. On the other side of the river, on Portuguese territory, we find more than 15 golf courses, such us Castro Marim, Vila Sol, Vale do Lobo and those belonging to the exquisite complexes of Vilamoura and Quinta do Lago.

Shopping areas

Located on the border, Ayamonte has developed a strong trading tradition. The pedestrianised streets create a commercial landscape with a vibrant cosmopolitan atmosphere, typical of a capital city. Commerce is still, without a doubt, one of the pillars of the local economy. Of course, our Portuguese neighbours, the people of Vila Real de Santo Antonio, have a similar and equally competitive commercial economy which has traditionally been the most distinctive feature of this border town.
