Traditions and festivals
Tradition and culture is reflected in the diversity of local festivals, such as the great Fiesta de la alegría, the internationally known Carnavales de Ayamonte and the solemn Easter celebrations in April, which combine both devotion and tradition. In August, the town celebrates the bright and colourful Fiestas del Patrón, Nuestro Señor y Salvador. In September, the Fiestas de la Patrona, Nuestra Señora de las Angustias, call on all the local people to gather. In winter we have, of course, the Christmas celebrations as well as Romerías (Pilgrimages). In the summer, the Music Festival brings the best orchestras and solo artists to the town. Celebrations that are reflected in the river, where culture and tradition flow, forever connecting the past with the present. |

Artists in Ayamonte
Ayamonte is a cultural town, with an unusually striking number of painters, sculptors, water-colour artists etc, amongst its inhabitants, which explains the richness in art galleries present in the town. Some trace this artistic tradition back to the arrival in Ayamonte of the Spanish Romantic painter Joaquín Sorolla on a project, while others will say it is simply a result of the cheerful character of the local people. Other crafts that can be found in Ayamonte include carving, model-making, parchment making, soldering… |
